Austin-based Stellios Technologies exited stealth with an oversubscribed $5 million pre-seed round and $2 million in signed purchase orders. Its first products are high-power microwave systems for counter-drone and counter-electronics missions.

Directed-energy start-up

Stellios, led by chief executive Richard Starson, said it will use the funding to deliver its first contracted systems, set up domestic pilot manufacturing and expand government business development. Investors include Sofreh Capital, Wave Function Ventures and Cubit Capital. [1]

The systems are built around klystrons and gyrotrons. DRONELIFE noted that the US military has already selected its first bases for a directed-energy counter-drone programme. [1]
