Japanese foundry start-up Rapidus announced Rapidus CORE, a framework linking design, EDA, IP and manufacturing, with 17 design companies as its first participants.
What was announced
Rapidus Corporation unveiled the Rapidus Collaborative Open Rapid Ecosystem, or Rapidus CORE, a global framework intended to support development and mass production of advanced semiconductors, according to its press release [1]. The first phase, called Design Solution Associates, comprises 17 design companies including Cadence Design Systems, Synopsys, Infosys, Wipro and HCL Technologies [1].
The company said that "Semiconductor development requires more than just manufacturing technology; it is essential to integrate the entire semiconductor value chain" [1].
Context
Digitimes reported on 5 October that Rapidus plans to partner with 17 domestic and international design firms to widen its potential customer base and help clients develop proprietary silicon, as part of Japan's effort to regain ground in chipmaking [2]. The release lists the company's capital as 424.95 billion yen as of 5 June 2026 [1].
