AMD said on October 27 it will invest $1 billion in Meta's equity offering and that its Helios rack-scale systems are installed and being tested at Meta. Nvidia had earlier said it would put $3 billion into the same offering.
Investment and Helios
AMD said on October 27 that it will invest $1 billion in Meta's equity offering, without disclosing further terms. In the same announcement it said AMD Helios rack-scale systems are installed and being tested by Meta, with broader deployment expected in the near future. [1]
Meta was an early definition customer for the Instinct MI450 architecture and will deploy a custom Instinct GPU optimised for its workloads, AMD said. Meta is also a lead customer for 6th Gen EPYC CPUs, and the two companies are working on a future EPYC generation called Verano. AMD chief executive Lisa Su said Helios running at Meta takes the partnership "to a new scale in the superintelligence era." [1]
Meta Offering
Meta priced a $37.5 billion offering made up of $25 billion of Class A common stock at $625 a share and $12.5 billion of mandatory convertible preferred depositary shares, due to close on October 29. Nvidia said on October 26 it would invest $3 billion. Separately, Meta holds a warrant announced in February for up to 160 million AMD shares at $0.01 each, vesting as it buys up to six gigawatts of AMD Instinct chips and as AMD's share price reaches set targets.
